I am working on a MIG-17 from SMER.

The kit contains two transparent "windows in the aft underside of the fuselage. This seems like an odd place for windows to me.

Does anybody know if these were really transparent parts and why these were there?

Not sure about 17 but 15 and 15bis have them. If I my memory is not failing me they were some sort of landing help device.

In the -15, -15 bis and -15 UTI the "windows" belong to the marker receiver and radio compass equipment. Most probably for the -17 it will be for the equivalent purpose.
