I would like to gain some insight into what products and methods work for people with regards to applying wire rigging to model aircraft.

Here's a simple tutorial and this one is much more in-depth.

Hello,

There are a number of different methods and materials one can use – here are some useful links to products that perhaps could be of help:

bobs buckles

how to use elastic EZ Wing Nut Wings

EZ lines

Turnbuckles from Gaspatch Models

Hope some of these can be useful. By the way, though EZ line may seem very handy, it's actually not that easy to use – mono line in Jessicas links can, with a bit of practice be far easier in my opinion.

I will definitely have a look into those resources. Thanks Jessica and Mikael.

I hate to dredge up an old topic (ok, it's not THAT old), but what size wire/cable was use on biplanes in the 1930s? I have access to 30awg steel wire (0.010") which would be about 1/2" in 1/48 scale. I also have access to 0.004" steel surgical wire (0.192") which is slightly larger than 3/16" in 1/48 scale. Are these wires too big or too small? I was thinking of using the 30awg for the main braces on the wings & the 0.004 on the tail.

I absolutely love and adore EZ Line. It is just so easy to work with and its elasticity makes it fairly rugged, I haven't had an antenna wire rip loose yet even with some hamfisted mishandling. It just stretches and springs right back to tension.

Ah, but back to the original question: what size do you use?
