Can someone tell me how you can tell if there's any mold releasing fluid on a kit? I left my Tamiya Raiden soaking in warm (well, it started out warm) water with dishwashing liquid in it for more than 12 hours, but when I took it out of the water tonight and washed it off under the tap, water still beaded on the surface.

It feels like I've got it all off, but I'm not 100% sure. Any input would be gratly apreciated!

Hi Dean. The water will still bead on some plastics even when there's no mould release agent still there. I give my kit a quick dunk in warm soapy water at the start, and once I get the basic assembly complete (wings, fuselage) I go over it with a cotton ball and methylated spirits. This gets rid of any residue, fingerprints etc that have accumulated during the process.

Cheers, D

methylated spirits?

Can you provide an Australian to American translation? I can't imagine you wasting spirits on anything.

I would have guessed isopropyl or denatured alcohol would work as a good cheap degreaser.

Ah ok thanks Damian, using metho sounds like a great idea. I'll be sure to remember that when I've got the Raiden all together.

@ Mark: never fear, Metho is denatured alcohol, so it's the last thing we would drink.
