Very tasty Fitter, Jesper. What an absolute thug of an aircraft it is - looks big enough to swallow my Flogger whole!

Thanks for the comment, Sean. It is a beast of an aircraft. The size combined with the shark teeth is a winner for me

Just a quick update.....

Not much done in the last month. I spent two weeks before SMW08 getting kits ready for that and then finally got round to some modelling last weekend.

All I did get done was the Light Gull Grey sprayed onto the Tomcat and then sealed it in a box for the Xtracolor enamels to dry for a week (boy do they take some time ) was hoping to get some pictures and decalling done this weekend but Sam and I are going to Dorset this weekend and will be popping into the FAA museum on the way back so it looks doubtful I'll get anything done (well maybe some progress pics).

At this rate the Tomcat may end up going through two campaigns with out being finished

Cheers

Hi Magnus,

I'm going to have to pull the pin, I'm sorry.

Thanks for your work anyway and good luck with the theme. If it ends up I can jump on the Tornado after all, I will do and rejoin.

Happy Christmas and all the best!

Grubby.

Hi Graeme!

I hope I haven't been the inspiration for you pulling out ! I feel I have neglected the campaign badly but I will try to breathe some life into it soon!

It has been nice to have you on board, you are very welcome back if you change your mind.

Don't blame yourself Magnus, Personally I think its just the sheer amount of campaigns that are running and everyone seems to be signed up to them.

I too must bail out of this one, a huge increase of new contracts at work mean I haven't seen the bench in nearly 3 months Good luck to everyone else on their builds.

Hi all!

I have finally made some progress on my Tornado!

It was a slow-starter, but It´s picking up some speed now!
All basic construction done, and cockpit almost done.

The intakes was just holes so you could see trough the fuselage, so I fitted two square pieces of plasticard as blockers.

From the beginning, I intended to do this straight out of the box.
But I was going to to order some cockpits from Neomega for other builds anyway, and had a look at the Tornado pit, suddenly I was totally lost!
This is a superb cockpit set, lightyears from the one supplied in the kit.
Detail is almost overwhelming, amd when the pit is painted it really shows!

Front office

...and back

Instrument panel

Back seat instruments

Seats

well, as you can see, there´s still a LOT to be done but you can appreciate the details already!

Cheers!

Nice work Stefan! Your'e just the kind of person we need to get this campaign rolling again. I have been busy doing just about everything but modelling the last few months but now things are looking brighter again!

I will also ask for a two month extension of the campaign, I for one haven't started my project yet!

Magnus an extension would be great like you the last month or two has been a no model zone.
The Backfire is sitting with the top surface painted but the lower is still in primer.

Now with several other campaigns beginning I need to pull my finger out.

Friends!

I haven't been granted an extension yet, I suppose we'll get an answer within a few days.

Another thing that has been a loose end since start is the ribbon. After a prolonged battle with Photoshop I have come up with the following suggestion:

If someone else can think of anything better I am open to suggestions! I will also ask Jesper via a PM, he seems to be as good at graphics as he is on modelling.

Tell me what you think! Improvements to the above or whole new ideas?

Looks like a good ribbon, but maybe an outline of a swing wing aircraft can be inserted instead of the wings in yours.

I will try to come up with something alternative although I am travelling this week, so do not know when I can make one.

Here are a couple of ultra quick suggestions - I made them while waiting for the aircraft in the airport.
Background colour can of course easily be changed. Letters added if necessary etc. I actually kind of like the one with red background. Communicates the swing wing aspect very effectively, yet simply.
The other ribbon could seem like a Tomcat campaign for those with a sharp eye

Anyway, comments welcome.

I'd be happy with either of Jesper's ribbons but an extension would be more advantageous at the moment. The Tomcat is almost painted and waiting for decals

I could be wrong but you would be the one that would allow an extension (as the campaign leader). This was certainly the case when I ran the Tomcat campaign. I just email the Campaign co-ordinator out of courtesy as a heads up and issued the ribbons a month later than the end date. this could have changed since then though.

I'll see to that we'll get both! It would be too bad to force that Tomcat on hold for the second time, we really want to see it finished now!

I can mess around with just about everything but the dates so I'll have asked Chuck to fix that for us. I see in his profile that he has been here today so it is probably on its way!

Jesper: I knew I could rely on you! I think the red-and-white one shows what the campaign is all about, without any need for words or letters! That one gets my vote at least, what does the rest of you think?

Hi all!

I´ll go for that red/white ribbon too, captures the Campaign very effectivly!

I have done some progress on my Tornado!

The cockpit is done and I have assembled the front fuselage.

The Neomega cockpit fitted very well with only some small modifications to the kit parts.
Removing and cleaning up the sills, nothing major and done in five minutes.

A black wash and a careful drybrush with silver brings out even more detail!

The seats got the same treatment;

The Hud and the backseater´s instruments;

So far everything have fitted quite well, but when I joined the front and aft fuselage, I got into problems!
This marriage have it´s problems!

Thete´s still a lot of work to be done here!

Cheers!

Hi Stefan,

Hope i'm not too late but the the intakes should be lined up at the bottom of the fuselage and there should be a step on the top as this is the case on the real thing.

You can just see it in this picture and this one (It's the black line just under the cockpit).

I only found this out after a Tornado pilot pointed it out on my tornado i did

Hope this helps

Cheers

mmh I have picked the little bird for this Campaign, a Su-24 Fencer but I won't have the time to finish it.. next time maybe. Too many builds, I'll have to quit my job and go live under my workbench!
