Parking meters have probably been in use since the automobile itself, and they're found in urban hubs in every city and town where parking is limited.

New company Hi-Tech Details gives us two sets of 14 parking meters. There are many shapes and styles of parking meter out in the real world, and I haven't determined the exact prototype for these, but the style is simple and is believable for almost any place or time period. They come in colored plastic, so one could use them straight from the package or painted to detail them further. I've used the silver unpainted in my example photos, so the reader can judge the effect for themselves.

The castings are clean, with only very slight flash around the top of the meter, quickly cleaned up with sanding. The meters have small window detail on both front and back, and knob detail on the front. They are each cast with a long attachment pin, so each can be firmly installed in a simple hole drilled into the layout scene.

The meters provide a pleasing detail for any modeled urban scene, and 14 per package is a useful number. At $4.95 for each set, they are 35 cents each, which doesn't sound so bad, even to a modeler on a small budget.

Summary:
Another common, useful streetscape item from Hi-Tech that will really enliven any era HO scene.
SUMMARY
Highs: Pre-colored and plenty in each pack.
Lows: No real low, except that each city has its own shape of meter that this might not match perfectly, but can't be too far off target.
Verdict: Hi-Tech Details has done another great job.

About Sean Hadfield (windysean)
FROM: WISCONSIN, UNITED STATES

I picked up model building and HO-scale model trains from my father. I've been working at it now for more than 45 years, always learning more. Although a self-proclaimed cheapskate, I always modify or add to my builds to make them unique and special (for better or worse, ha ha).
