Brochure: Herpa Cars & Trucks 2011 / 05-06 Manufacturer: Vespa
Type: 50 R
A new two-wheeler enhances the Herpa Collection 2011. The classic of all scooters, the Piaggio Vespa 50 R, is released as Herpa miniature model. The silver-metallic model is delivered as freestanding model with detachable stand.
Piaggio built aircraft engines until World War Two destroyed the company and the Germans stole the machinery. After the war the company persuaded the Allies to return the equipment, and the company began to rebuild itself, and Italy's economy, by producing light personal transport. Thus was born the Vespa (Wasp) scooter family.
The Vespa 50 R (Refurbished) is an evolution of N (New, first Vespa 50) and L (Luxury) from which it inherits some peculiar features. Production totaled 238762 scooters from 1969 to 1983.
Herpa’s release of this HO model of the Vespa gives modelers of the 1960s and 1970s an iconic motorcycle. The scooter and model are featured in the Herpa 03/2011 issue of DER MASS:STAB
Your Vespa is factory assembled. It’s securely packed in a form-fitted tray held inside a clear plastic carton with end opening flaps. A red Herpa label decorates the packaging. My model sample is molded with simple molded detail and assembled and painted with no blemishes or flaws .
This is a simple model of the Vespa. The tiny handlebars and kickstand are slightly out of scale but are probably within the limitations of injection molding.
The seat and taillight are painted on.
A very simple, very small, nicely done model of an iconic motor scooter. Recommend.
Herpa also makes an HO Simson kR 51/1 scooter -- the yellow scooter shown with the Vespa.
